The flight is only half the job when you’re travelling with kids. Then there’s baggage claim, a pram, tired children and the drive to wherever you’re staying. These are the five things we’ve found make the biggest difference to how that last leg goes.
1. Book your transfer before you fly
Standard taxis at the airport rank usually don’t carry child seats. Under NSW rules, rideshare and hire car drivers must have children under 7 in an approved restraint, so they can refuse the trip if you don’t have one. Sorting it out at the kerb, with kids who’ve just done a long flight, is not fun.
Book a transfer with seats before you leave home. When you book with us, tell us each child’s age and we’ll bring the right restraint: a capsule for babies up to 12 months, a car seat for 1 to 4 years, or a booster for 4 to 7 years. If you’ve been searching for “taxis with car seats” or an “infant car seat taxi”, this is exactly what those searches are after.
2. Leave the car seats at home
Car seats are bulky, awkward to carry through terminals, and may not suit the cars you’ll ride in. Seats bought overseas often don’t meet the Australian Standard (AS/NZS 1754) either, so they may not be legal to use here.
If you book transport that brings Australian-approved seats, you can skip carrying them altogether. That’s one less thing in your arms between the plane and the car.
3. Match the car to your luggage
Families travel heavy: suitcases, prams, portacots, nappy bags. Think about how much you’ll have when you choose a vehicle. Our sedans and SUVs suit smaller families, and the MaxiVan suits bigger groups or lots of bags. Luggage trailers are available if you’re bringing a lot of gear. Add everything to your booking so we send the right car the first time.
4. Pack a small ride bag
The drive from Sydney Airport to the CBD is about 8 to 10 km and usually takes 25 to 35 minutes, longer in peak traffic. That can feel like forever to a toddler who has just come off a plane. Keep a small bag within reach with:
- snacks and a water bottle
- wipes and a spare nappy or change of clothes
- one small toy or book they haven’t seen in a while
- a dummy or comforter for babies
Our drivers have songs and games ready for the trip too.
5. Keep your phone on when you land
Include your flight number and terminal in your booking, and turn your phone on as soon as you can after landing. International arrivals take time to get through immigration and baggage, so your driver will want to hear from you once you’re through. Families with pre-booked pickups don’t have to queue at the taxi rank with tired kids and a trolley full of bags.
Book your family airport transfer
Sydney Baby Taxi covers Sydney Domestic and International Airport, with child seats fitted before pickup. All rides are pre-booked and pickups run 24/7, so early morning and late-night flights are no problem. Get a quote for a Sydney taxi with car seat or call 0458 903 449 (7am–7pm, 7 days).
